In gennaio Nick Rhodes incontra Limahl dei Kajagoogoo all'Embassy Club di Londra. Da questo incontro nasce una collaborazione; Nick produce l'album "White Feathers". Il singolo "Too Shy" diventerà un grande successo e in febbraio raggiungerà la prima posizione nelle charts inglesi.
January: Nick Rhodes met Limahl from Kajagoogoo at “Embassy Club” in London. The meeting was the starting point of a collaboration between the two of them: Nick produced the album called “White Feathers”. The single “Too Shy” became a hit and – on February – it reached #1 of the UK charts.


Il 19 marzo i Duran Duran pubblicano in tutto il mondo il singolo “Is there something I should know?”. Il 45 giri raggiunge il primo posto delle hit parade inglesi in solo una settimana.
On March 19 th , Duran Duran worldwide released a new single called “Is there something I should know?”. In only 1 week, the new song reached #1 of the UK charts.


Nel frattempo "Hungry Like The Wolf" si posizione al primo posto nelle classifiche usa; la band è ospite del programma americano "Saturday Night Live" dove si esibisce dal vivo con: "Girls On Film" e la stessa "Hungry Like The Wolf".
In the meantime, "Hungry Like The Wolf" reached #1 of the US charts; the
band was guest at the american TV program"Saturday Night Live" performing
"Girls On Film" and "Hungry Like The Wolf".


Negli stessi giorni, la band è protagonista di veri e propri episodi di delirio: a New York, in occasione dell'uscita della raccolta dei loro primi undici video clips, il gruppo, che si trovava all'interno di "Video Shack" a Times Square per autografare copia delle video cassette, si ritrova intrappolato nel locale stesso mentre all'esterno una grande folla di fans dà luogo a scene di isterismo. I cinque sono costretti ad abbandonare il negozio attraverso le uscite di sicurezza.
A seguito di quanto accaduto, si accenderà un fervente interesse intorno al fenomeno della "duranmania" da parte di media americani.
In the same times, the band has been involved in some episodes of hysteria: in New York, during the promotion of the collection of the first 11 videoclips of the band, Duran Duran, who were inside “Video Shack” in Times Square signing the copies of the VHSs, have been mobbed inside the shop while – outside – a screaming crowd was waiting for them. The five members had to leave the shop thru the emergency exits.
As a result of this fact, the american mass media began to show an increasing interest about “Duranmania”.


Tornati in Inghilterra a fine marzo, la band inizia una massiccia promozione televisiva per supportare le vendite del nuovo singolo (Is there something I should know?).
Esibizioni, tra le altre, a "Oxford Road Show", a "Kenny Evererett Video Show" e "Top of the Pops".

At the end of March, got back to England, the band started a massive TV promotion to support the new single' (Is there something I should know?) sales. Shows, among the others, at “Oxford Road Show”, “Kenny Everett Video Show” and “Top of the Pops”.

L'album "Duran Duran" viene ristampato con una nuova copertina, l'inserimento di "Is there something I should know?" e l'eliminazione di "To the shore".

“Duran Duran” the album, was re-printed with a different cover, including “Is there something I should know?” and without “To the Shore”.


Ad aprile Rio ottiene il disco di platino. Simon e Nick conducono il programma "Guest VJs" su MTV (USA) al quale partecipa Andy Warhol in veste di ospite. Alla fine del programma, i tre Taylor raggiungono gli studios e la band affigge al muro il disco d'oro di Rio, quale regalo all'emittente televisiva per l'aiuto nel raggiungere il successo in America. April: Rio went Platinum. Simon and Nick were the VJs at the MTV programm “Guest VJs”. Andy Warhol was the VIP guest . At the end of the show, the 3 Taylor reached the studios as well and the band hang the Gold Record for Rio on a wall as present to MTV for the help

In maggio, i Duran Duran volano in Australia a cercare un posto che permetta loro di concentrarsi nella fase compositiva dei pezzi del nuovo album.

May: Duran Duran flew to Australia searching for a place where they could concentrate during the composition phase of the new album. They worked at the Air Studios in Montserrat, owned by George Martin. On the right, some pics from those days.

Il 21 giugno, Jools Holland realizza un documentario a Fréjus, Francia per lo special "A Midsummer Night's Tube" della TV britannica. All'interno si trova un promo video di "Faith in this colour" (foto accanto).

Nel mese di luglio, i Duran Duran suonano due concerti dal vivo in Inghilterra. Alla data del 20, al Dominion Theatre di Londra, tra il pubblico sono presenti Lady Diana Spencer e il Principe Carlo. In seguito, si saprà che l'IRA aveva posizionato un ordigno esplosivo all'interno del teatro al fine di assassinare i Reali Inglesi. Il piano è stato, poi, in extremis, annullato.

Il 23 luglio, invece, la band suona a Birmingham, all'Aston Villa Football Grounds, per un concerto di beneficienza che non frutta i risultati sperati. Per supplire ai magri incassi, la band e i Berrows versano un contributo di £10,000 a testa.

July: Duran Duran played 2 gigs in England. At the show - on the 20 th - at Dominion Theatre of London, Lady Diana Spencer and Prince Charles were present in the audience. Later, it was reported that IRA put a bomb inside the venue to kill the Royal Members. The plan was, in extremis, cancelled. On July 23 rd , the band played a benefit concert in Birmingham, at Aston Villa Football Grounds. But the show didn't rise enough money so the band and the Berrows brothers gave £ 10,000 each.


A fine agosto la band ritorna in Australia per la registrazione e il mixaggio presso gli Studios 301 di Sidney. "Union of the Snake" e la b-side "Secret Oktober" vengono scritte, registrate e mixate a tempo record.
Negli stessi giorni ha luogo la session fotografica per la copertina del nuovo album. Una curiosità: il costo di tutta la session compreso l'affitto della tigre del Bengala - è di £ 65,000.
At the end of August the band flew back to Australia to record and mix at Studio 301 in Sidney. They wrote, recorded and mixed “Union of the Snake” and the b-side “Secret Oktober” in record time. In the same period, the photo session for the album cover took place. A curiosity: the cost of the session – including the renting of the Tiger of Bengala – was £ 65,000.

Il 12 novembre parte il "Sing Blue Silver" Tour con una serie di sold-out in Australia.

Il 21 novembre viene pubblicato in tutto il mondo l'album "Seven And The Ragged Tiger".

L'anno si conclude con le date inglesi del tour che culmina con cinque serate consecutive alla Wembley Arena di Londra.
